The Seal of Sight

Excavated from a sealed burial chamber, this ceremonial gate was not built to resist force. It was built to recognize completion.

The wall is divided into four horizontal registers, marked on the left:

rows 1 – 2 (Foundation)

rows 3 – 4 (Form)

rows 5 – 6 (Depth)

rows 7 – 8. (Eye/Brow)

Some bindings reinforce a register from within. Others connect two neighboring registers where they meet.

The Eye is restored only when the bindings follow its structure.

The Inscription

Recovered from the chamber wall

At the first pillar, no creature marks the stone. There, the register itself gives the command. Bound within the chamber of Form the first rise of the Eye.

Where the owl watches at the very top of the wall, seal the upper crossing directly below it, where Depth rises into the Eye.

Beneath the small bird set high on the left side, tie the mid crossing beneath it, where Form meets Depth.

Where the mouth sits in the center-left, join the foundation seam directly beneath it.

The upright snake stands in the upper passage. Seal the upper crossing at its level.

Where the beetle rises from the base stone, join the foundation seam directly above it.

The small snake rests at the center of the wall. First, join the foundation seam beneath it. Then, bind the inner curve above within Depth itself.

At the wing on the outward sweep, secure the Form in that same column, below the wing above the foundation.

At the outer edge, the bird-man stands on the final column. Complete the descent by joining the foundation and form beneath him.

The Gate will remain silent until shadow. It does not open in light. Let the Eye see in darkness.
